Dentists by city
We connect callers with dental offices across the US. Call and tell us your ZIP code; we'll look for an office that serves it. City guides add local facts: how to check a license in your state, Medicaid dental rules and lower-cost options nearby.
How do I find a dentist in my city?
Call and tell us two things: what you need, such as a checkup, a toothache or dentures, and your ZIP code. We look for a participating dental office that serves that ZIP code and connect your call, when one is available. The office tells you its openings, the insurance it accepts and its prices, and you decide whether to book.
If you'd rather search on your own, your state dental board's website lists licensed dentists, and your insurance plan's website lists offices in its network. For children on Medicaid or CHIP, your plan can give you a list of dentists who see children.
What should I check before I book a dentist?
A few questions on the phone save a wasted trip. Ask the office these before you book, and write the answers down:
| Check | Why it matters | Where to confirm it |
|---|---|---|
| License | Every dentist must hold an active license in the state where they practice. | Your state dental board's online lookup |
| Insurance or Medicaid | Offices choose which plans they join, and this changes over time. | Ask the office, then check your plan's provider list |
| Openings | New-patient visits can be booked weeks out; emergency slots are often held for the same day. | Ask for the first new-patient and emergency openings |
| Prices | Fees vary by office and by what the dentist finds at the exam. | Ask for a written estimate before treatment |
| Access needs | Wheelchair access, language help and sedation options differ by office. | Ask when you book so the office can plan |
Are there lower-cost dental options in most cities?
In many areas, yes. Dental schools run teaching clinics where students treat patients under the supervision of licensed faculty, usually for lower fees and with longer visits. Federally funded community health centers offer dental care in many counties, with fees on a sliding scale based on income; you can search for one near you on the HRSA "Find a Health Center" tool. Children may qualify for dental coverage through Medicaid or CHIP in every state. Adult Medicaid dental benefits differ a lot from state to state, from emergency-only care to full checkups. Our guide to paying for dental care explains each option.
New city guides are added regularly. If your city isn't listed yet, you can still call; we connect callers across the US.
